Bio

Rachael Lander is a freelance cellist living in London. She trained
under Kim Dinitzen at the Royal Northern College of Music, Manchester.
After graduating, Rachael took the unusual career move of giving up
playing the cello entirely and doing a “proper” job. After 2
unfulfilling years of temping (the real low point being the dispensing of
parking permits for Wandsworth Borough Council), Rachael returned to
the cello to form Raven, who did their first gig in a pub in Hoxton.
Four years later, Raven have played the Royal Albert Hall, The London
Palladium, The Barbican and toured as far as Tokyo Japan.
Raven have played with everyone from Goldie to Tim Minchin. They have
performed on Chris Evans’s Radio 2 Breakfast Show, on Radio 1 Live
Lounge with Ellie Goulding, they were the resident string quartet on
BBC 2’s Maestro and in February will appear in a BBC documentary as
part of Goldie’s Band, by Royal Appointment where they performed for
Prince Harry in a televised concert at Buckingham Palace.
Raven arrange all their own material, which means Rachael is lucky
enough to play big solos in big venues. However, she is good in a
section and performs with the London Chamber Orchestra, the London
Metropolitan Orchestra and last year played in the orchestra on stage
at the Royal Variety Performance. Rachael has recently recorded solo
for film and television, including Cutting Edge Documenties for
channel 4 and live appearances with Ellie Goulding. Her
improvisational skills have been used by Gabriel Prokofiev, Matthew
Barley and various film composers on a deadline trying to create an
atmosphere.
Rachael also works as a fitting model for several high street clothes
shops, despite the fact that her arms are 3cm too long for the job.
